Arch work is used in school buildings (and other structures) primarily for strength, durability, and aesthetics. Here are the main reasons:
1. Load Distribution: Arches are excellent at distributing weight evenly. They transfer the load from above (like roofs or upper floors) to the supporting walls or columns, reducing stress on any one point.
2. Structural Stability: Especially in areas prone to earthquakes or heavy loads, arches provide enhanced stability and resistance.

3. Longer Spans Without Support: Arches allow wider openings like doorways, halls, and verandahs without needing many columns or beams.
4. Aesthetic Appeal: Architecturally, arches give a timeless and elegant appearance. Many schools use them to create a welcoming, classical, or culturally inspired design.
5. Ventilation and Light: Some arch designs (like those above windows or corridors) help improve air circulation and natural lighting.

May 6: Today we finished the gable walls. Since they are fresh, we are going to leave it for a few days to cure properly.

A gable is useful in a building because it: 1. Supports the roof structure: helps anchor the rafters and adds stability to the roof. 2. Defines roof slope: sets the angel of the roof, helping rainwater run off easily.

3. Improves ventilation: creates space for vents or windows that allow hot air to escape. 4. Adds space: for an attic or extra upper-level room. 5. Enhances appearance: gables add character and architectural beauty to a building.
